Pack Square Park

Asheville’s epicenter since its establishment in 1797, Downtown’s public square, is a sight to behold. It was financed by George W. Pack, who donated his land and resources to build it – including erecting the iconic Vance Monument in 1896. Now standing at 6.5 acres large, this picturesque park offers visitors an opportunity to unwind and appreciate its grandeur while being immersed in local history.

Filled with lush greenery and beautiful flowers, Pack Square Park is surrounded by a variety of shops and other amenities. From the old-fashioned dime store to the outdoor jazz bands, there’s something for everyone in this vibrant public space. Take a stroll through its pedestrian pathways or jump on one of the antique carousels – no matter what you choose to do, Pack Square Park is sure to fill your day with joy and excitement!

A striking Granite Veterans’ Memorial stands the northeast corner of the park, an ode to those who have served our country. Here you can also find the Vance Birthplace, a tribute to North Carolina’s Civil War-era governor and Asheville native. And last but not least, admire the bronze statue of Zebulon Vance himself – an important figure in the history of Asheville that truly brings the park together!

Pack Square Park is the perfect destination for music aficionados, offering an array of incredible events such as Shindig on the Green, Art in the Park, and LEAF Downtown. Take part in a cheerful gathering of friends and revelers at any of these mesmerizing performances! It’s also a great way to socialize and meet new people.

The area also has a range of restaurants and bars, meaning you can continue your adventure into the night. As one of the most exciting places in Asheville, it’s no wonder why so many locals and visitors alike come back for more. Whether you’re looking to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life or just want to soak up some culture, Pack Square Park won’t disappoint!
